This project marks a significant milestone for MFG, as it represents their inaugural EV-only charging hub. Notably, it is also Greater Manchester's first dedicated Ultra Rapid Charging forecourt, designed to cater to electric vehicle manufacturers across the spectrum. This endeavour contributes to the broader goal of enhancing and 'levelling up' the charging infrastructure in the United Kingdom, extending beyond the traditionally well-served regions of London and the South-East.

MBH took the helm of this project, assuming various critical roles, including Project Management, Lead Designer, Contract Administration, and Principal Designer. This multi-faceted approach was pivotal in ensuring the project's successful execution within a tightly constrained timeline.

The project site was originally home to an operational car wash valeting facility, having undergone a transformation from a former petrol fuel station. Located on Chester Road in Manchester, this site underwent a comprehensive makeover that encompassed both external and internal modifications. The notable elements of the proposed works included the remodel of the existing sales building, the installation of eight dedicated ultra-rapid 150 kW charging bays beneath a sleek canopy, the implementation of a comprehensive EV charging infrastructure featuring a Substation, three Jet Wash enclosures, and an air-water bay. The project also involved the creation of a designated disabled parking area, which entailed the removal of the existing forecourt canopy, car wash, and jet wash facilities.

One striking feature of the project was the redesign of the existing building on-site. This transformation included the opening of a corner and the incorporation of curved glass elements, giving the structure a modern and cutting-edge appearance that harmonizes seamlessly with the innovative world of EV technology. The final result achieved the remarkable feat of making the building appear entirely new, despite its origin as an altered and renovated existing structure.
